Baltinglass Senior Championship 1971
Carnew opposed Baltinglass in a 1971 final - football ability, enthusiasm and experience saw Baltinglass win 2-8 to 0-10. Baltinglass received credit for their good football, combining well and generally showing superior skills. At one stage, it seemed as if they might win by a big score, but lost the advantage for a while in the second half. It was an unusual game in that, despite their respectable score, only two players scored for Baltinglass. Lar Norton had 2-1 and Peter Burke in his first final scored; the other seven points, six from frees.
Team: Jim Whelan, John Connell, Ken Browne, Joe Doherty, Matt Finn, Tom Scott, Frank Byrne, Seamus Kelly, Seamus Cunningham, Noel Scott, Tony Norton, Peter Burke, Larry Norton, Andrew Buchanan and Willie Wall. Subs: John Callaghan, Anthony Leigh. Willie Wall was team Captain and after the game he received the trophy from County Chairman and fellow Baltinglass man, Jim Byrne.
