U14 Boys Co Champions - November 16th 2009
Balto U14 County Champions.
Baltinglass U14 boys captured the Co Wicklow Football (B) Championship on Sunday 8th Nov with a superb display of teamwork and skill by defeating St Kevin’s on a score line of 4:13 to 0:6 in Dunlavin. This young Baltinglass team (18 members are under 14 again next year) played their best football of the entire year to completely dominate their opponents St Kevin’s in the final. This Baltinglass team commenced training on Feb 16th last with one mission in mind; to win the county title. They played 11 games in the championship; winning 10 and only losing one to St Kevin’s in the last game of the league series. That loss was used by the management to motivate this young team to a 19 point victory in the final.
The Balto lads were hungry for every ball and the mid field pairing of Eoin Patterson(0:4) & Sean Corrigan(0:1) dominated this area all day. William Hanlon was superb between the sticks and his kick outs found their man every time. The Balto defence of Eamonn Horan, Peter Gethings and Thomas Timmins were solid as were the half back line of Tom Burke, Niall Kirwan & Sean Parks; limiting the opposition to only two points from play. The Balto half forwards Cillian Burke(1:5), James Tyrrell & Eddie Hanlon (0:2)worked hard & their interplay with the roving inner forward line of Pat Burke (2:0), Jake Kennedy(1:0) and Robin Farrell (0:1) was exceptional to watch. This Balto team had over 65 training sessions and 25 matches this year scoring 63 goals & 131 points in their 11 championship games. Indeed their true character shone through in their semi-final win over Michael Dwyer’s. Trailing by 4 points with two minutes remaining; they worked and supported each other carve out a one point win thereby setting up their championship winning performance. The whole panel of 28 young players all of whom contributed throughout the season must be congratulated on their skill levels, commitment and dedication to training coupled with their exceptional discipline and attitude both on and off the field. Well done lads, you are all Winners.
Manager : Kieran Burke. Selectors :Ben Kirwan, Liam Hanlon & Jimmy Burke. Helped during the year by Mike O’ Sullivan & Kevin O’ Brien.
