Senior team exit from the championship... - September 30th 2009

Last Sunday - 27th Sept - our senior team played rivals Rathnew in the semi final of the senior championship. We started well and led by 3points to one after 15mins. However Rathnew then scored a goal and Leighton Glynn was causing us problems. Unfortunately we had no plan to deal with Leighton Glynn and this was one key factor in our defeat. At half time we were two points down but despite the couple of obvious areas that neede to be addressed we were still well in the game. Half way through the second half we were still tow points down having exchanged points with Rathnew. Then disaster struck again when a high ball kicked in by Rathnew came off the upright and fell into the Rathnew's full forwards hands and he kicked to the back of the net. From here on we needed at least a goal but Rathnew had brought back three extra defenders to ensure we wouldnn't score a goal. Nick Mernagh had the freedom of the pitch all day and he picked out Leighton Glynn with most of the passes which ended up as scores. It is always very disappointing to lose a semi final but it is even more frustrating when we failed to address some obvious potential problems before and during the game.
Up until recently this squad were showing up well but unfortunately it wasn't to be.
We have two league games left and we are currently top of division 1. We play Bray away on Sunday morning the 11th of October @ 11am. We also await a date for the final of the 'GAA Special 125 Celebrations' Cup - where we meet Rathnew again.
